Dear cyclist,
It is with great excitement that we announce the first ever Namibian National Gravel Champs, powered by Hollard and sanctioned by the NCF. The idea was born by the burgeoning growth of gravel riding across the world. The UCI now has a gravel bike championship and series on their calendar too. It’s the fastest growing segment in cycling!
With the explosion of the sport, Namibia did not want to be left behind and hence launched the Khomas100. To involve as many riders as possible, the race is open to all kinds of bikes – not only gravel.
The National Champ will be crowned as the first Namibian crossing the finish line on a gravel bike. There’s also no prize money in this category, but the winner will get the national jersey, medal and an entry to World Champs 2025 in France!
The general classification will be open to ALL riders, so even a mountain bike can take the cash prize! The prize pot for the 100 mile race is a whopping N$150 000!
The gruelling 100 miler (160km) will start at the Tony Rust Stadium on 26 October 2024 at 06:30 sharp. There will be 5 waterpoints and 2 tech zones along the scenic route finishing at the NWR Gross Barman Resort. Total elevation about 1500m. The route will be on the website soon.
If you want to take on an easy, scenic and flat route, you can take part in the 40km or 90km route starting and finishing at the Gross Barman Resort at 08:30 and 08:00 respectively.
Gross Barman and NWR proudly stepped up as our venue and accommodation partner, sponsoring N$38 000 in accommodation vouchers as prizes. They will also provide free day passes to all riders and 3 of their family members. So the whole family can enjoy the hot springs, stunning chalets (please book directly) and spa treatments.
The day promises to be one of huge excitement with Two Beards Coffee selling coffee and pastries from 06:00 at the Gross Barman Resort. The MBM October Fest Beer Tent will then open at 10:00 offering beer, wine, soft drinks and a variety of German cuisine proudly hosted by Towerbos Trails and Mannie’s Bike Mecca.
We are also super proud to announce the support of Indongo Toyota, Mannies Bike Mecca, Towerbos, Two Beards Coffee, Cymot, Deo Pharma, Plastilon, African Marketing, W Meyer Optometrist, Minaqua, Cycletec and Nova103.5 FM and Delta Medical.
Registration will take place at the brand new Cymot Building in Hilltop on 24 October 2024 16:00 to 18:00.
There will be 100 EARLY bird entries ONLY in each race distance. First come first serve!
