Get ready for Namibia’s first gravel cycling event
The Khomas 100 is just over two months away, and early bird entries for the 160km race are already sold out. Limited spots remain for the 90km and 40km distances.
To answer some common questions:
Can a mountain bike win the National Champs?
For this year only, the UCI and NCF have allowed gravel or mountain bikes to compete for the National Champion title. While the route favors gravel bikes, mountain bikers can still claim the podium.
What can I expect at the water points?
- Water point 1 (sponsored by Cymot): Offers water, Coke, snacks, a tech zone, and Squirt Lube.
- Water point 2 (sponsored by CIC): Provides a wide variety of snacks, Thirsty water, Pepsi, Squish, and wine gums.
- Water point 3 (sponsored by Team Cycletec): Features a tech zone, Squirt Lube, water, Coke, and various snacks.
- Water point 4 (sponsored by Deopharma spot): Offers PVM and Deopharma supplements, along with snacks and fruit.
- Water point 5 (sponsored by Indongo Toyota): Includes a Squirt Lube area, Coke, water, fruit, and snacks.
The 90km and 40km races will utilise water points 4 and 5. Additionally, Mannies Bike Mecca will offer a tech zone at the start/finish in Gross Barmen, along with Two Beards Coffee.
What’s the start like for the 160km race?
The race begins at the beautiful Tony Rust Race Track. Riders will be escorted by a race car for a neutral lap before the official start up Daan Viljoen. Tony Rust will serve coffee and rusks.
Are support cars allowed?
For safety reasons, support cars are prohibited on the route. Riders must rely on the water points. Event cars and ambulances will be present. Any rider using a support car will be disqualified. Elite riders can send pre-marked bottles to water points 2 and 4 for collection.
What about the finish?
Gross Barmen promises an exciting finish with a Mannies Bike Mecca October Beer Fest tent. Each rider can bring up to three guests for free entry and access to facilities. Consider booking a chalet at NWR for a relaxing weekend.
